Amazon Alexa+ costs $19.99, but it’s free for Prime members
Amazon’s new Alexa+ experience costs $19.99 per month or is free for Prime members. It will begin early access next month in the U.S. After that, it will roll out to more users over the following months.
Supported Devices
The first devices to get Alexa+ are:
-
Echo Show 8
-
Echo Show 10
-
Echo Show 15
-
Echo Show 21
It’s not clear if other devices, like the Echo Dot and Echo Pop, will support it. Amazon hasn’t provided details.
New Features with Alexa+
With Alexa+, Amazon is launching Alexa.com, a new web platform for long-form work. They are also updating the Alexa mobile app with a fresh look and new features.
Amazon’s Vision
“Today, we’re moving from chatbots to something new: generative AI and a new Alexa,” said Panos Panay, Amazon’s devices and services chief, at an NYC event on Wednesday.
Competitive Pricing
At $19.99, Alexa+ competes well with other generative AI chatbots. Both OpenAI’s basic ChatGPT plan and the premium version of Google’s Gemini assistant, Gemini Advanced, also cost $19.99.
However, the price is higher than expected. Reports suggest Amazon might charge between $5 and $10 for the upgraded Alexa, possibly with a generous free trial.
